Right folks, here is the real deal. ‘Thirsty Riverside’ opens for business at 4pm on Fri 28 April at [drum roll, drum roll]… *The Cambridge Museum of Technology*, just along from Midsummer Common on, er, Riverside! Check out our slightly smudgy sketch for an idea of how fab this thing is going to look (alongside what it looked like in the flesh a couple of weeks ago). Whaddaya think?!?
To say we are excited about this is the understatement of the year. There is nowhere else… like this place in the city. We’re working our jolly butts off to clear and prepare the site, turning the areas behind the railings overlooking the river into a proper German-style biergarten by the end of the month, but with a funky Thirsty twist. We’ll be open every Fri pm/eve, Sat day/eve + Sun day/eve until the end of September.
>> There will be seating/tables for up to 200, much of it covered under big umbrellas, along with space on the grass for rugs.
>> There will be festoon lighting around the biergarten to bring it to life at dusk.
>> Craft beer, wine, spirits and softs will be German-led, showcasing all the marvellous grog this country is producing these days. Don’t worry, there will also be Prosecco and Provencal rose…
>> All your favourite food trucks will be pitching up (incl Provenance Kitchen for ‘German Brunch’ every Sunday from their Airstream trailer), along with ice cream from Jack’s Gelato, posh coffee + cakes from Rural Coffee Project, new traders from out of town – with one or two more foodie surprises up our sleeves (that may or may not involve some German sausages…)
>> Let your inner groover run free: a combination of DJs, musicians and our own specially-created playlists will provide a chilled musical vibe to the biergarten. Yes, Nena and her 99 Balloons will be heard. Perhaps even the Scorpions.
>> A proper German biergarten welcomes all the family. There will be stuff to help keep the kids occupied, while you relax over great drink and great nosh. Win-win-win(e).
>> There will be larger one-off events throughout the summer, including at least two outdoor cinema weekends with Enchanted Cinema, a monthly farmers’ market, plus one or two other formats we’re working on…
>> Planning an event – a party, a work night out, some client entertainment, a team-builder, a reception, or just a regular get-together? Depending on your numbers and needs, we’ve got all sorts of options in terms of space, drinks and catering. Talk to us now to get something booked in the diary.
If you have any great ideas for stuff we can still incorporate into our big cunning plan, feel free to shout now! We can’t guarantee we can make it happen, but if we like it, we’ll try.
We can’t wait to see you from the 28th. Cross your fingers for the weather. And start spreading the word…
Cheers und prost!
Sam, Ctibor, Katja, Elodie and all the Thirsty mob
